Unveiling Puri Singgasana Ambarukmo: Indonesia's Hidden Palace Paradise!
Unveiling Puri Singgasana Ambarukmo: My Honest (Messy) Review - Palace Paradise… or Just Painful Perfection?
Okay, buckle up buttercups, because I'm about to spill the tea (and maybe some lukewarm coffee) on the Puri Singgasana Ambarukmo. This place calls itself a "Hidden Palace Paradise," and honestly, after my stay, I’m still trying to figure out if I stumbled into Xanadu or just a really, REALLY well-decorated hotel. Prepare for a review that's less pristine brochure and more… well, me.
First Impressions & Accessibility (or, the Great Lobby Debacle)
Finding this 'hidden palace' was surprisingly easy, no thanks to my questionable sense of direction. (Seriously, I once got lost in a phone booth.) But once I arrived, BAM! Grand lobby. Gleaming marble. So much stuff you could stage a museum exhibit. Now, I’m no art critic, but I do know a good photo opp when I see one.
Accessibility: Alright, this is important, right? The hotel says it’s accessible, and they seem to mean it, which is a good start! There's an elevator, and I saw ramps. I didn't need a wheelchair myself, but it seemed they'd put some thought into it. So, thumbs up on that front, although I didn't get a chance to thoroughly examine every inch.
On-site accessible restaurants/lounges?: I saw no obvious accessibility issues within the restaurant and bar areas. However, I didn't scrutinize every corner, so I'm offering this with a caveat – double check if you have specific needs.
Internet – The Wireless Wilderness!
Internet, Internet [LAN], Internet services, Wi-Fi in public areas, Free Wi-Fi in all rooms! Okay, let's talk connectivity. They promise Wi-Fi, and they deliver…ish. The Wi-Fi [free] in the rooms was, shall we say, temperamental. One minute I was streaming cat videos, the next I was staring at a loading screen for what felt like an eternity. The Internet access – LAN (if you are stuck in the dark ages) worked better. Wi-Fi in public areas was more stable, but you know, it's a hotel… you're usually moving.
Room & Amenities – Where the Magic (and My Sanity) Happened
My room? Pretty damn gorgeous. Seriously, the air conditioning was a lifesaver (hello, Yogyakarta humidity!), the blackout curtains were a godsend for a late sleeper like me, and the bathtub was practically begging me to soak in it with a bottle of wine (which I conveniently brought). I loved the bathrobes, and the slippers, and I felt like royalty. Honestly, I could live in the sofa. The desk was fine for working, the complimentary tea was a lifesaver. I was especially grateful for the mirror and hairdryer because, let's face it, looking presentable is a struggle. I also noticed a mini bar, which, well, let's just say I almost ate it. The in-room safe box made me feel responsible, like I ever actually left the hotel.
Stuff In The Room
I was also happy with the alarm clock, the extra long bed, the linens, the reading light, the refrigerator, the satellite/cable channels, the shower, the smoke detector, the soundproofing, the telephone, the toiletries, and the towels. Complimentary bottled water was appreciated, and the window that opens gave my air a bit of a breather from the aircon.
Now, a confession: I may have spent an embarrassing amount of time snuggling with the pillow, just because. (Don't judge me!)
Things to Do, Ways to Relax (or, The Spa Saga of Doom)
Okay, the spa. This is where things get…interesting. They had the whole shebang: Body scrub, Body wrap, Foot bath, Massage, Sauna, Spa, Spa/sauna, Steamroom. I went for a massage, fully expecting to emerge feeling like a pampered princess. Instead…? Well, let's just say my masseuse apparently thought "gentle" meant "attempted to rearrange my internal organs." It wasn't the zen experience I'd hoped for. I felt like a pretzel after.
Pool with view, Swimming pool, Swimming pool [outdoor]: The pool was great! I mean, the pool with a view was stunning, but I’m not sure where that was. And the outdoor pool? Perfect for a lazy afternoon. The Poolside bar was a bonus.
Fitness & Gym/fitness: I am just too lazy to go.
Dining, Drinking, and Snacking – Food Glorious Food (Mostly)
Restaurants: So many choices! Restaurants galore. They even had a Vegetarian restaurant.
I'm not a big fan of Asian cuisine in restaurant, other than the occasional tasty dish. The Asian breakfast had me thinking. International cuisine in restaurant felt more safe for me. Western food was good, especially the Western breakfast.
A la carte in restaurant, Breakfast [buffet], Breakfast service, Buffet in restaurant: The breakfast [buffet] was LEGENDARY. Absolutely LEGENDARY. I spent about 3 hours there, sampling everything. From the coffee/tea in restaurant to the amazing desserts in restaurant, every item was a work of art. Well, almost every item. There was this one…thing… that looked like a meatball, and I'm still not entirely sure what it was. But hey, variety is the spice of life, right?
Snack bar, Soup in restaurant, Salad in restaurant: The Snack bar served delightful treats. Soup in restaurant? Fine. Salad in restaurant? Again, okay.
Bar, Bottle of water, Coffee/tea in restaurant, Happy hour, Poolside bar: The bar was a great place to unwind after a day of, well, existing. Bottle of water was always necessary.
Room service [24-hour]: 24-hour room service saved my sanity and my hunger during the dark nights.
Cleanliness and Safety – Did I Catch Anything Besides a Great Tan?
Cleanliness and safety: Thank god. I need this.
Anti-viral cleaning products, Daily disinfection in common areas, Hand sanitizer, Hygiene certification, Individually-wrapped food options, Physical distancing of at least 1 meter, Professional-grade sanitizing services, Rooms sanitized between stays, Safe dining setup, Sanitized kitchen and tableware items, Staff trained in safety protocol, Sterilizing equipment: All of this.
They took cleanliness very seriously, which, in these uncertain times, is definitely a plus. I saw hand sanitizer everywhere, staff were masked, and they were constantly cleaning. I felt safe. I mean, safe from the plague, at least. Still not sure about the spa, though…
Also:
CCTV in common areas, CCTV outside property, Fire extinguisher, Smoke alarms, Safety/security feature, Security [24-hour]: Security seemed good.
Services and Conveniences – The Little Things That Matter (or, the Quest for the Lost Iron)
Daily housekeeping, Luggage storage, Laundry service, Valet parking, Car park [on-site], Elevator, Air conditioning in public area, Concierge, Cash withdrawal, Currency exchange, Doorman, Front desk [24-hour], Gift/souvenir shop, Ironing service: The service was impeccable. The daily housekeeping was a godsend, especially considering my penchant for leaving a trail of chaos wherever I go. The front desk [24-hour] staff were always there, always helpful. But the real test? The ironing service. I’m disastrous with an iron. Miraculously, my shirts emerged from the laundry looking crisp and presentable. It was almost as if magic was involved.
Invoice provided, Non-smoking rooms, Smoking area, Terrace: All of it was great. For the kids: Babysitting service, Family/child friendly, Kids facilities, Kids meal: I am not a kid, so I’m not the target audience.
Getting Around: Airport transfer, Car park [free of charge], Taxi service Getting around was easy.
Business Facilities: Audio-visual equipment for special events, Business facilities, Meeting/banquet facilities, Meetings, Meeting stationery, On-site event hosting, Projector/LED display, Seminars, Wi-Fi for special events, Xerox/fax in business center: The business facilities seemed pretty comprehensive, although I wasn't there for business.
So, the Verdict?
Okay, so is the Puri Singgasana Ambarukmo a "Hidden Palace Paradise"? Look, it has its quirks. The Wi-Fi can be spotty, the spa might require a minor miracle to survive, and that meatball at breakfast still haunts my dreams. But overall? Yes. Absolutely. It's a luxurious, well-appointed hotel with exceptional service,
Indonesian Paradise: Your Private 3BR Pool Villa Awaits (IR46A)Okay, buckle up Buttercup, because this is less a travel itinerary and more a therapy session with a view of Mount Merapi. We’re going to Puri Singgasana Ambarukmo, Indonesia. Expect mess, maybe some tears, and definitely a healthy dose of “should I have skipped breakfast?”
Day 1: Arrival…and Existential Dread (Mostly Over Breakfast)
- 6:00 AM: Wake up. Okay, technically dragged myself out of bed. Jet lag is a beast. The airport shuttle driver has a playlist of Indonesian pop that I’m pretty sure is designed to slowly drive you insane. He keeps looking at me in the rearview mirror to see if I'm singing, which is an invitation no one in their right mind would accept until they've had their first coffee.
- 8:00 AM: Arrive at Puri Singgasana Ambarukmo. Wow. The building is stunning, all grand archways and gleaming marble. Feeling a bit like a peasant entering a palace. Check-in is smooth, which always feels like a minor miracle after a long flight.
- 8:30 AM – 9:30 AM: Breakfast is a revelation. A legitimate feast. I mean, the buffet is practically a runway for Indonesian delicacies. I try everything. Seriously, my plate is a war crime against good eating habits. The coffee is strong, the pastries are flaky… I’m starting to feel human. The only problem? A profound existential question: Am I actually going to be able to eat like this every day? My stomach is already protesting.
- 10:00 AM: Settle into my room. The view is supposed to be amazing, but I'm mostly focused on unpacking and staring at the air conditioner trying to decide if I should turn it on. (Yes, I did). It turns out the view is fantastic, anyway. Rice paddies stretching out to a hazy mountain. Okay, maybe I'm not completely regretting this trip.
- 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM: Poolside chill. The pool is gorgeous. I try to look effortlessly elegant while attempting the backstroke, but probably look like a floundering beached whale, and I spent an embarrassingly long time trying to get the perfect selfie. I order a mango smoothie. This is the life, right? Wait, did I remember to pack sunscreen…?
- 1:00 PM – 3:00 PM: Lunch. More food. I swear, I’m going to spend this entire trip in a blissful carbohydrate-induced coma. I got to know the chef and he was a pretty funny guy! I swear, food is a huge part of Indonesian experience because I can't help but love every dish here.
- 3:00 PM – 5:00 PM: Explore the area -- well, attempt to. The heat is intense. I get lost, wander into a tiny, bustling neighborhood that feels miles away from the luxury of the hotel. I see a little girl chasing chickens and feel a pang of something… nostalgia? Homesickness? Who knows. Grab a bottle of water, which I promptly spill.
- 5:00 PM – 6:00 PM: Back to the pool. I'm obsessed with the pool, so I'm heading back.
- 6:00 PM – 7:00 PM: Prepare for dinner.
- 7:00 PM – 9:00 PM: Dinner at the hotel restaurant. The food is even better than lunch. They offer a wide variety. Overeat again. Stare out at the stars, feeling a strange mix of peace and the overwhelming realization of my own insignificance. (Thanks, existential breakfast).
- 9:00 PM: Sleep. Or at least, I intend to. My brain is still buzzing with the day's sensory overload. I probably won’t fully sleep until the middle of the night.
Day 2: Temples, Tea, and a Near-Death Experience (with a Taxi Driver)
- 7:00 AM: Wake up, still slightly jet-lagged. Coffee, obviously. And some weird fruit I can't identify.
- 8:00 AM: Breakfast. Repeat the buffet insanity. Start thinking about packing extra pants for the trip.
- 9:00 AM: Hire a taxi to head off to Prambanan temple. The journey begins.
- 9:30 AM – 11:00 AM: Prambanan. Okay, WOW. The sheer scale of this place is phenomenal. Carvings, intricate details, the history… just breathtaking. I walk around, mouth agape at everything. However, the crowd is massive. Photo ops are tough. Try to take some pictures.
- 11:30 AM: The taxi ride back. This is where things get interesting and by interesting, I mean terrifying. My driver is a speed demon, taking hairpin turns as if he's auditioning for Fast & Furious. I hold on for dear life, muttering prayers under my breath. I suspect he has a death wish. I can't handle this driver again.
- 12:30 PM: Lunch. I NEED FOOD. And preferably something that doesn't involve being hurled around at breakneck speed. The restaurant is decent. I have a lot of food.
- 2:00 PM – 4:00 PM: Visit a tea plantation. That was a nice contrast to the previous experience. I’m not a tea aficionado, but the scenery alone is worth it. Rolling green hills, fresh air… I'm starting to believe that I can live here forever. The tea is good, the guides are lovely.
- 4:30 PM: Back to the hotel. Straight to the pool. I think I might actually live in that pool.
- 6:00 PM: Dinner. I'm craving some Western food because my stomach might start going on strike if I eat one more piece of tempe.
- 7:00 PM – 9:00 PM: Stroll around the hotel, listening to live music, which is a pleasant surprise.
- 9:00 PM: Sleep. The day was so long and tiring.
Day 3: Culture, Cooking, and a Bitter Farewell
- 7:00 AM: Wake up. Breakfast. Yep. I have it down to a science.
- 9:00 AM: Cooking class. This is the thing I've been most excited about since I booked the trip! I'm hoping to make some authentic Indonesian dishes. I somehow manage to burn a little bit of food but overall it's a blast. I learn so much, I taste so much. I'm absolutely in love with Indonesian food.
- 12:00 PM: Lunch. The food I helped make! I'm so happy to have finally gotten to try Indonesian dishes for myself!
- 1:00 PM - 3:00 PM: Farewell to the hotel. Time to head to the airport. I wish I could stay longer, but I have to get back.
- 5:00 PM - 6:00 PM: Wait for the flight.
- 8:00 PM: Flight.
Final Ramblings:
So, would I recommend Puri Singgasana Ambarukmo? Absolutely, yes. It’s beautiful, comfortable, and the staff is amazing. Do I feel like I fully experienced Indonesia? Maybe not. But I ate a shocking amount of delicious food, I saw some incredible sights, I almost died in a taxi, and I learned a whole heck of a lot about myself (and my capacity for gluttony). Travel is messy, imperfect, and often hilarious. This trip certainly was. And I’m already planning my return. Pray for my digestive system.
